If a tooth is decayed, damaged, crowded or beyond repair then the tooth will have to be extracted. Be sure to tell your dentist if you have any pre-existing medical condition or if you are on any medication. An x-ray of your tooth may be required before the extraction process has begun.
Simple and Surgical Extraction
An anaesthetic will be delivered to numb the area of your tooth so that you don’t feel any pain during the procedure. A small incision will be made into the area for the dentist or oral surgeon. The bone around the tooth may also be removed before the extraction.
Wisdom Tooth Removal
Wisdom teeth are molars in the back of your mouth that come between the ages of 17 and 25. If one of our dentists recommend an extraction it’s usually because they are not coming out normally, they can be trapped in your jawbone or gums which can be very painful.
Your wisdom tooth may also be coming out from a wrong angle and press against other teeth which cause problems in your jaw.
Finally, it may be difficult to reach the back of your mouth with your toothbrush or dental floss resulting in cavities or gum disease. At our practice the wisdom teeth extractions, especially the lower wisdom teeth are done by specialists in oral surgery.
